An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Orthoptist either band 5, or band 6 depending on experience, to join our welcoming team of 3 Strabismus consultants, 8 Orthoptists and 7 Ophthalmic Technicians on a fixed term contract.

The Orthoptic team deliver clinical services at Epsom and St Helier Hospitals, in addition to primary Vision Screening located in schools in Merton, and deliver the Low Vision Aids and an Orthoptic Stroke service.

This position provides a good opportunity to gain experience across multiple Orthoptic roles. You will be supported by a collaborative and friendly team who look forward to working together. Newly qualified Orthoptists are welcome to apply and would be supported by a preceptorship programme.


Post holder will

* Provide a full orthoptic service and assess, diagnose, manage and treat patients referred to the orthoptic department from a variety of sources.
* Provide a full visual field service, reporting to the ophthalmic team and including fields for neurology, paediatric and adult oncology, general medicine and endocrinology.
* Provide an adult low vision service, assessing and providing low vision aids to patients referred to the service, and signposting to additional support.
* Provide support to the Orthoptic stroke service, undertaking assessments of both inpatients and outpatients referred to the stroke service.
