Overview
The post provides clerical and reception support for the Day Surgery service within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. Responsibilities
* Provide clerical and reception services for Day Surgery.
* Answer general queries and carry out administrative tasks to ensure the smooth running of the department.
* Assist with all administration duties, including locating and preparing patient notes.
* Work closely with clinical colleagues to ensure patients receive good quality care.
* Organise own day-to-day work tasks and use initiative within standard procedures and policies.
* Meet and greet patients on the day of surgery; communicate in a sensitive and caring manner where patients may be anxious.
* Book patients into the department and ensure patient information is recorded accurately onto the system.
* Locate and prepare patient notes in a timely and organised manner.
* Communicate with Day Surgery staff and members of the multi-disciplinary team (e.g., pre-assessment clinic (PAC) and scheduling teams).
* Work regularly and closely with nurses, ODPS, healthcare support workers, surgical staff and admin staff.
* Work as part of a clerical team to provide support to the Day Surgery Service.
* Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times in line with the Data Protection Act and Trust policy.
* Attend regular team meetings and keep up to date with changes to policies/procedures within the department.
* Keep up with mandatory online training and audit days to improve knowledge and skills.
Context and Organisation
The Day Surgery Unit (DSU) has a high turnover and currently runs 5 theatres, specialising in a range of surgical disciplines including Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Plastics, Dermatology and Pain.
