About Casterton College Rutland
Casterton College Rutland
Ryhall Road, Great Casterton, Stamford
Rutland
PE9 4AT
United Kingdom
Casterton College Rutland is a single academy in Great Casterton in the beautiful county of Rutland.
We have approximately 900 young people aged 11-16 and we are proud of our long record of success over many years. In 2021 we were in the top three schools for secondary school of the year and in 2017 we won an award for best maths department in England at the national teaching awards.
At Casterton we believe that ability is not fixed, so all young people are welcome. We have high expectations and high standards, but we build our school on a culture of care, kindness and compassion. Our staff turnover is low, and we pride ourselves on not being part of a MAT. Instead of a corporate feel we cultivate a community feel to our school and we want it to be a pleasure to teach or work here. Behaviour is good and based on a team of great staff who really care about our students and want the best for them. It makes for a lovely environment for both staff and young people alike.
Principal
Carl Smith
Values and vision
Casterton College Rutland believes that whether students are budding actors, sports stars, scientists or politicians, the school has something to offer them. The academy thinks this broad, positive outlook is why its students have gone on to become national sports champions in judo, winners of major writing competitions, award-winning cooks and artists who sell their work professionally.
The secondary school also has a fantastic record in national maths challenges, cyber challenges as well as a track record in nurturing potential Olympians.
Ofsted report
"The principal's excellent leadership inspires trust and confidence in the whole-school community. Leaders and managers have taken determined action in response to the previous inspection and successfully brought about rapid improvements. Attendance has improved for all groups of pupils. This is also the case for pupils who were persistently absent. Leaders and managers have very high expectations of pupils' behaviour. Pupils' behaviour is now outstanding. Pupils take a pride in their appearance and conduct themselves in a mature and sensible manner in lessons and around the school."
