Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Mental Health - Inpatient

The Adult Pathway are offering an exciting opportunity for an Inpatient Consultant Adult Psychiatrist to join the team based on Brocton Ward, St George's hospital, Stafford.
The pathway provides comprehensive mental health services to the South Staffordshire localities, and you will be pivotal in providing clinical leadership to the team as part of a collective leadership structure and providing support and supervision to Specialty Doctor.
The service is supported by Consultant Nurses, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Non-Medical Prescribers and trainees. You will manage the Specialty Doctor but this is supported by the close working relationships between the Operational Manager and Consultant Psychiatrist. Clinical supervision of the Specialty Doctor will remain with the Consultant Psychiatrist.
Brocton Ward which is a 20 bedded Adult Acute Admissions ward. 6 of these beds are allocated for the MOD and you will also be the consultant psychiatrist. Adjacent is Chebsey Ward and Milford ward, which are also adult acute admissions ward as well as Norbury ward which is a psychiatric intensive care unit. All wards work closely together and as part of the integrated approach taken across the inpatient provision.
A job plan will be agreed after appointment and will follow the Mental Health Directorate's commitment to 7.5 Programmed Activities (PAs) for Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) per 10 PA job plan.
Main duties of the job
You will be the Lead ECT Consultant who along with the Lead ECT nurse and the Lead Consultant Anaesthetist advise on appropriate treatment facilities, is responsible for development and the updating of the ECT policy and training and supervision of medical staff.
* Advise on appropriate treatment protocols for individual patients based on established ECTAS Guidelines.
* Advise the ECT team on the suitability of referrals to the service.
* Consultant input into inpatient care and treatment, with the facility for rapid assessment of admitted patients, daily review of patients and timely discharge in liaison with General Practitioners, community pathways and other community support services.
* Training and supervision is provided in accordance with the guidance set out by RCPsych for doctors involved in the administration of ECT.
* Competency to perform ECT is determined by the ECT Lead Consultant.

On Call Work
You will participate in an approx. 1:19 on call rota for Staffordshire; the rota covers both adult and older adult psychiatry on the St George's site as well as community cover for emergencies and Mental Health Act work across South Staffordshire. The consultant is usually 3rd on call with support from a 2nd on call SAS Doctor or higher trainee and a 1st on call Junior Doctor. Occasionally, the consultant may be 2nd on call if there is a gap on the 2nd on call rota. Remuneration for on call work is currently via a 3 % availability supplement and 0.25 APA.
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
