The Role
You will lead within a one‑team culture while actively contributing your own skills and experience. You will coordinate the design team to deliver the required outputs for a portfolio of projects under the guidance of a design manager.
Key Attributes
* Commitment to excellence in Health & Safety (H&S) in design, fully complying with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) and all other relevant H&S legislation.
* In‑depth knowledge of the layout and interconnectivity of typical water and wastewater treatment works, including pumping systems.
* Strong communication skills to interact with other engineering disciplines and clients.
* Ability to produce clear and concise electrical design deliverables across all design stages of a project.
* Ability to manage design delivery and project‑manage.
* Leadership skills to manage and motivate individuals to consistently deliver.
* Willingness to contribute to and develop technical knowledge networks.
* A drive to stay abreast of professional development and knowledge of current and emerging technical solutions.
* Flexibility to travel within the UK (including Northern Ireland) and Ireland, as required.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
* Reporting directly to the Design Manager.
* Part of a multi‑disciplined team of engineers responsible for producing design deliverables for water, wastewater and process treatment plants.
* Assisting in all aspects of electrical design, from site surveys and feasibility studies to detailed design and tender pricing.
* Producing procurement specifications for electrical equipment, cable calculations and detailed design construction drawings.
* Project‑managing third‑party designs and providing design assistance to installation and commissioning teams. Liaising with clients and subcontractors.
* Working as part of a team to support project delivery, embracing the ethos of a “one‑team” culture.
* Ensuring design, health, safety, environmental and sustainability standards, policies and procedures are always adhered to.
* Monitoring design delivery performance and efficiency, adjusting and reacting as necessary to achieve targets and keeping the MIDP up to date.
* Producing electrical design outputs as required.
* Ensuring Glanua’s and the clients’ technical requirements are met throughout the design.
* Conducting regular meetings with project delivery teams to allocate resources, monitor the plan and adjust as necessary.
* Updating Design Change Control.
* Liaising between mechanical and civil & structural designers.
* Involved in the growth and development of the company, including expansion of the direct delivery model, business‑case development for onboarding staff, gap analysis, recruitment and structuring.
* Providing robust leadership and support for site teams.
* Mentoring and training junior staff, showing eagerness to learn and progress in your own career.
* Other duties as required from time to time.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
* Chartered or Incorporated member of the IET with extensive experience in water or wastewater, non‑infrastructure, and infrastructure design.
* Knowledge of the Designer and Principal Designer duties under CDM 2015.
* Experience managing design quality‑control processes.
* Experience developing programmes and budgets and monitoring progress against both.
* Able to communicate clearly and lead a multidisciplinary team.
* Proven record in mentoring and developing staff in design.
* Experience with Thames Water and Yorkshire Water’s electrical design standards is advantageous but not essential.
* Providing mentorship to junior / graduate electrical design engineers.
* Strong team‑leader and decision‑maker with proven experience.
* Water and wastewater design experience highly desirable.
* Commercial experience desirable.
* Interest in developing a career within an industry‑leading organisation.
* Ability to work as part of a team in project delivery and contribute at team meetings.
* Ability to use own initiative, problem‑solve and adjust as issues arise.
* Good working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Strong communication skills and high motivation.
* Full driving licence.
