Overview
Responsibilities include safety engineering activities for Programmable Elements in support of the Combat System Design Safety Justification and Whole Boat Safety Case, and engagements with suppliers and third parties to gather safety evidence in accordance with Def Stan 00-055/00-056.
Responsibilities
* Conduct Programmable Elements Safety Engineering activities (e.g., PHA, FTA, PSSA/SSA) in support of safety cases.
* Determine causes of Programmable Elements Safety failures and perform common cause analysis.
* Define and monitor Programmable Elements Safety Requirements and ensure compliance with CASS TOES.
* Organise and contribute to Hazard Identification workshops and Safety Committee meetings.
* Integrate and accept Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) products where appropriate.
* Engage with third parties (equipment or system suppliers) to review and gather supporting Programmable Elements Safety evidence per Def Stan 00-055.
* Report progress of Programmable Elements Safety Engineering activities at Project and Programme reviews.
* Work within an established Safety Management System, bringing expertise to make recommendations for improvements.
* Demonstrable experience in Programmable Elements Safety Engineering contributing to Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) allocation documents to develop Preliminary System Safety Assessment (PSSA) and System Safety Assessment (SSA).
* Able to demonstrate understanding of safety of systems with Programmable Elements in accordance with Def Stan 00-055 and Def Stan 00-056.
* Experience in Safety Engineering and Programmable Elements Safety Requirements in accordance with IEC/BS EN 61508 in the defence domain.
* Able to demonstrate competence in rigor of Software Development Safety Integrity Level (SIL) and Design Assurance Level (DAL) depending on industry experience.
Desirable
* Relevant engineering qualification such as BEng/MEng or equivalent experience.
* Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer or working towards.

Salary: Circa £60,000 depending on experience.
