Your Role: Reporting to our senior editorial team, you will be a vital part of our content engine, producing a huge range of articles for both our digital and print platforms. From reporting on celebrity news and the latest lifestyle trends for Fabulous Digital, to compelling real-life stories for Fabulous Daily and The Sun newspaper, you will be at the forefront of creating the content our millions of readers love.
Based in our London Bridge office, you are a true team player who can turn their hand to any story across Sun Club, digital and paper. You will be comfortable interviewing case studies and turning around clean, accurate, and vibrant copy to tight deadlines. This is a role with enormous potential for a journalist who is eager to learn from the best in the business and make a real impact.
This role is full-time (five days a week), operating on a 40-hour, rolling seven-day rota with staggered shifts. As per the News UK flexible working policy, this role is required to work from our London Bridge office for a minimum of 3 days a week. Any part-time working requests will be considered on an individual basis.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Write a wide variety of engaging and accurate features for both digital and print, covering everything from quick online wins to real-life and consumer issues to celebrity and lifestyle
2. Able to pitch stories that match trending topics, traffic drivers and new themes for an online audience that can then convert to publication in the paper
3. Master the art of digital storytelling, creating content that is optimised for online audiences and drives engagement.
4. Work closely with Commissioning Editors and senior writers to support the daily news list, taking on stories and seeing them through to publication
5. Confidently and sensitively interview case studies for a range of features
6. Able to deliver a story with appropriate imagery, particularly video, to ensure the story is distributed across platforms (eg paper, website, YouTube), including Sun Club
7. Actively contribute to conferences by pitching smart, on-brand story ideas for print and digital
8. Deliver exceptional copy under the pressure of rolling deadlines in a fast-paced news environment.
Key Skills/Qualifications:
9. Proven experience as a writer in a news agency, regional, or national press environment
10. A portfolio of published work that demonstrates versatility and a flair for writing engaging copy
11. NCTJ and media law training
12. A true passion for the kind of stories that The Sun and Fabulous are famous for.
13. Experience in writing for digital platforms is highly advantageous
14. A tireless work ethic, a positive attitude, and a desire to learn and grow
15. The ability to work collaboratively as part of a large, integrated team
