Job description
Our client, a prominent player in the construction industry, is currently seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Mechanical Design Engineer specialising in Building Services to join their expanding team. This is a permanent position where you will play a pivotal role in the design and delivery of high-quality mechanical systems for building projects across the UK and Ireland. The role requires a solid background in mechanical building services, including HVAC, heating and cooling, and renewable systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead or support the design and specification of mechanical building services systems in various sectors such as commercial, residential, healthcare, education, and industrial
2. Develop detailed mechanical designs including HVAC systems, heating and cooling systems, domestic hot and cold water services, renewable energy systems, compressed air and steam systems, and Building Management Systems (BMS)
3. Produce detailed design drawings, layouts, schematics, and equipment schedules
4. Carry out mechanical design calculations for pipework, ductwork, pumps, fans, and plant selections
5. Prepare and review specifications, reports, and technical submittals
6. Collaborate with electrical, architectural, and structural engineers to ensure coordinated design solutions
7. Attend design team meetings, client briefings, and site visits
8. Mentor and support junior engineers
9. Ensure compliance with current UK and Irish regulations and standards
Job Requirements:
10. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit MEP for BIM modelling and clash detection
11. Significant experience with HVAC, heating and cooling, and renewable systems in building services
12. Solid understanding of CIBSE Guides, Building Regulations Part L, and BSRIA Application Guides
13. Familiarity with energy and carbon reduction strategies aligned with UK Net Zero targets
14. Experience using Hevacomp, IES VE, and MagiCAD for design and analysis
15. Excellent communication, report writing, and client engagement skills
16. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related field
Desirable Skills:
17. Experience with lifecycle cost analysis and embodied carbon assessments
18. Knowledge of UK BIM Level 2 standards and ISO 19650
19. Experience in on-site construction support, commissioning, and witnessing
20. Familiarity with project delivery under RIBA Plan of Work stages
