This is a new post, created following the receipt of additional resources from commissioners to provide substantive medical capacity in the SET CAMHS Crisis and Therapeutic Home Treatment (THT) Team. Its aim is to deliver high‑quality preventative care and reduce the time CAMHS spend in A&E. A considerable amount of transformation has already taken place and will continue within Essex's Community CAMHS Services.
It is a new, substantive, full‑time post – 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) with 7.5 Direct Clinical Contact activities (DCC) and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs). This post is vacant and we wish to recruit to it as soon as possible.
We consider requests for flexible working, job share or fixed‑term arrangements if preferred.
The expectation of the post holder is to support their teams, the Directorate and the organisation to follow the Trust’s Values in day‑to‑day work:
* We are kind
* We are respectful
* We work with our communities
This post is for a CAMHS Consultant Psychiatrist position in the Southend, Essex, and Thurrock (SET) CAMHS Crisis and Therapeutic Home Treatment (THT) Team, based at Stapleford House, 103 Stapleford Close, Chelmsford, CM2 0QX.
On‑call Responsibilities
The postholder will be part of the Senior Psychiatrist out‑of‑hours on‑call rota. The community CAMHS Consultants participate in an on‑call rota with a current frequency of 1:7, receiving a 2% basic salary supplement (Category B). The rota primarily provides telephone advice to the crisis teams, which is the first point of contact for children in crises out of hours, covering Southend, Essex and Thurrock. On‑call shifts run from 17:00 – 09:00 Monday to Friday, and all day on weekends and bank holidays. The on‑call does not include support to psychiatric inpatient units or Section 136 suites, as this is provided by a different organisation in Essex (EPUT).
This advert closes on Sunday 10 May 2026.
