Overview

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Lead Orthopaedic Practitioner to join our busy Trauma and Orthopaedic Department. This is a key leadership role, working closely with both the orthopaedic and clinic teams to provide strong leadership, unit management, and staff development across the service. The Lead Practitioner will support orthopaedic wards, outpatients, fracture clinics, and the plaster room, ensuring care is delivered in line with Trust policy and the highest professional standards. The role includes assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care to ensure patients receive excellent, safe, and compassionate treatment. The Lead will lead on the Plaster Room service, support clinical governance and patient experience initiatives, and champion workforce development and education. The successful candidate will provide kind, skilled, and expert leadership, inspire and empower others, and drive continuous improvements in practice. They will supervise and teach nursing and non‑nursing colleagues, acting as a positive clinical role model and ensuring high‑quality care is consistently delivered.


Responsibilities

* Lead Orthopaedic Practitioner within a skilled team delivering high‑quality services across Trauma and Orthopaedics, the Emergency Department, Urgent Treatment Centre, Wards, Theatres, and other departments within the Trust.
* Provide direct and indirect patient care of the highest standard within Fracture, Orthopaedic, and Paediatric Clinics, and support care in Wards, Theatres, and other areas as required.
* Act as a specialist resource, offering expert guidance, advice, and education to the multidisciplinary team (MDT) in relation to the specialist area.
* In partnership with Clinical Leads, provide leadership and coordination for the Plaster Room service, ensuring safe, effective, and patient‑focused care, including planning, delivering, and evaluating services and driving quality and efficiency improvements.
* Take responsibility for teaching, supervision, and appraisal of peers and junior colleagues (Bands 4‑6), acting as a role model and supporting professional development within the team.
* Contribute to the ongoing development of the service, promote innovation, and support review and adaptation of policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines to ensure evidence‑based practice and aligned with best standards of care.


Qualifications and Experience

* Experience at Band 7 leading orthopaedic and multidisciplinary teams; proven ability to provide leadership, guidance, and education to MDT members.
* Ability to supervise and teach both nursing and non‑nursing colleagues and to act as a positive clinical role model.
* Strong commitment to clinical governance, patient safety, and continuous service improvement.
* Experience in coordinating and improving the Plaster Room service and related clinical areas.
