Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in a high performing integrated level 3 sexual health service (genito-urinary medicine, contraception, HIV treatment and care).

The bSHaW service is delivered from 2 main hubs - Brookside Centre, Aylesbury and Shaw Clinic, Wycombe Hospital with peripheral sites at Amersham, Chesham and Buckingham. The successful candidate will join the team based at Brookside. bSHaW offers a mixture of pre-booked and walk-in and wait clinics predominantly delivered in the morning and afternoon with evening clinics offered on a Monday and Wednesday.

Main duties of the job

To participate in health promotion in the clinic and the wider community environment.

To chaperone in the assessment of individual patient needs, under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

To undertake clinical interventions, unsupervised, as delegated by a senior team member, including venepuncture, microscopy, blood pressure, temperature and pulse.

To work in co-operation with all other professionals and agencies involved in the care of the patient.

Liaise and co-operate effectively with the administrative and reception staff in order to maintain an effective patient pathway.

Be responsible for stock control and ordering stores, equipment and monitoring faults and report to the appropriate staff member.

Person specification

Education qualifications and training

Desirable criteria

10. Level 2 or Level 3 (NVQ) in health and Social Care or equivalent relevant experience
11. Care Certificate or working towards

Experience

Essential criteria

12. Experience of working with people, ideally in a front-line customer service role

Desirable criteria

13. Experience of providing person-centred care

Skills, abilities and knowledge

Essential criteria

14. To have an understanding of current issues affecting the NHS
15. An understanding of the importance of patient confidentiality and privacy

Desirable criteria

16. Understanding of child protection and vulnerable adult issues
17. Understanding of sexual health and contraception issues

Special circumstances (e.g. ability to travel to other sites).
