Job Title: Applications Engineer I
Reports To: Applications Coordinator
Location: DMG MORI TC
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm
Classification: Non-Exempt
Travel: 25 – 50%
Note: Employment is conditioned on DMG MORI's ability to obtain and maintain necessary export licenses.
Job Summary
Provide technical support in person or over the phone for customers, sales, and trade shows related to CNC Machines. Conduct time studies, test cuts, and machine demonstrations as per customer requirements.
Essential Job Functions
* Perform application engineering work under supervision.
* Participate in training activities with senior colleagues, internal academy, and external resources.
* Compile fixtures and work holding setups for demos, test cuts, and turnkey projects.
* Conduct time estimates for customer parts.
* Calculate optimal speeds and feeds for part processing.
* Use CAPPS conversational programming, industry-standard CAM systems, and direct G-Code/Macro programming to generate CNC programs.
* Set up CNC machines with programs, tooling, workpieces, and fixtures.
* Inspect finished parts for quality and accuracy.
* Generate engineering reports and technical documentation.
* Maintain frequent communication with internal technical staff, external customers, and suppliers.
Minimum Requirements
* B.S. Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or related field, and/or machining knowledge.
* 0-2 years of related experience.
* Knowledge of part processing, metal cutting, CNC programming, reading drawings, and machine setup.
* Basic understanding of Metallurgy.
* Proven ability to communicate professionally with internal and external customers.
* Flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
* Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
* Ability to work 40 hours per week plus overtime with prior notice.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Work Environment
Exposure to manufacturing and machining environments with potential hazards such as noise, chemicals, heavy equipment, and automated/manual machinery. Office environment at DMG MORI.
Physical Demands
Frequent travel, operating vehicles, standing, walking, bending, squatting, stooping, sitting, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and repetitive movements.
Periodic use of power equipment, computers, and phones.
Occasional lifting or moving of objects up to 50 lbs.
