The Division
The Governance and Risk (G&R) team is responsible for developing and maintaining effective risk management and compliance standards at Capsticks. We work closely with legal and business service divisions through heads of division, directors of service, and compliance champions across the firm's five offices to manage quality, embed risk management, compliance, and continuous improvement to enhance the client experience.
G&R's role is to ensure compliance with the SRA and ICO requirements and to maintain the firm's ISO accreditations. The team consists of seven members split into two groups: the Operations Team, handling daily queries and information security, and the Compliance & Quality Team, managing complex conduct queries, policy development, insurances, claims, and the quality management system.
The Role
This is a hands-on, entry-level role within our busy G&R department, responsible for developing and maintaining risk management and compliance standards at Capsticks.
The position is within the G&R Operations Team, reporting to the Head of Operations. It offers a great opportunity to build a career in legal compliance. We encourage applicants with experience both inside and outside the legal sector.
The main focus will be assisting with data collection and management, recording incidents and queries on spreadsheets, analyzing data to produce reports and trends for Committees. The Coordinator will work across both teams, gaining broad exposure to compliance areas and developing skills in routine risk and compliance questions and process ownership.
On-the-job training will be provided by the G&R team to develop necessary skills.
The G&R team covers two main areas:
* The Operations Team, handling compliance queries, information security, and quality systems.
* The Complaints and Claims team, managing client complaints, claims, and PII insurance.
G&R engages with legal and business divisions across six offices to promote good risk management, drive improvement, and ensure regulatory compliance.
The Coordinator reports to the Governance and Risk Team Leader and receives support from the Head of Governance and Risk.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
* Data management: logging, tracking, monitoring queries, and presenting data clearly.
* Information barriers and conflicts of interest: managing information barriers and file access requests.
* Compliance queries: supporting research and drafting responses on topics like SRA compliance, conflicts, AML, information security, data breaches, and complaints.
* Training: managing the compliance training platform and monitoring completion.
* Committee papers: preparing reports and papers for Committees.
* Raising the profile of G&R: supporting communication with compliance champions and participating in meetings.
* GDPR compliance: assisting with data access and deletion requests.
* Audits: supporting external and internal audits, including monitoring corrective actions.
* Policies: assisting with policy reviews, drafting, and updates.
* Internal communications: creating and circulating compliance alerts and updates.
* Ad hoc projects: supporting firmwide projects involving G&R.
Skills & Experience
