EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

2. Developing strategies for avoiding/mitigating harm in the design and delivery of schemes
3. Ensuring licenses and controls are in place to meet species and habitat obligations
4. Providing technical input into standards, guidance, and training to ensure the wider business and our supply partners have the tools and support to protect and enhance biodiversity on our sites and through our work in the wider landscape, ensuring company compliance
5. Undertaking ecological field surveys, including acting as Ecological Clerk of Works, performing site inspections, surveys, and other ecological tasks
6. Ensuring ecological data for Severn Trent is collated, stored, maintained, and analyzed to provide insights for future developments and opportunities
7. Managing day-to-day contact with ecological contractors
8. Supporting incident response by providing technical ecological expertise and advice
9. Building good relationships with the Environment Agency, Natural England, and other stakeholders to develop collaborative approaches that deliver habitat and species gains and risk mitigation
10. Supporting research and development into innovative ways to deliver ecological outcomes within Severn Trent Water and as part of cross-water company research projects
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
We’re seeking ecologists with a working knowledge of opportunities and challenges facing species and habitat conservation, along with related policies and legislation. Ideally, you will hold licenses for at least one protected species.
You should have a relevant degree in ecology or a related discipline and be a member (or working towards membership) of a relevant professional body. Knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain application and the use of the calculator, as well as experience with environmental policy frameworks in England and Wales, is desirable.
You will need excellent written and verbal communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft applications and GIS systems, including mapping with UKHAB.
While skills and experience are important, we also value character, positivity, and a caring attitude. We are hiring multiple ecologists, welcoming applications from recent graduates and more experienced candidates to foster growth and learning. We are open to candidates who may not meet all the listed requirements.
A full UK driving license is essential for travel to various offices and sites.
We celebrate diversity and encourage applicants from all backgrounds, believing that diverse perspectives help us serve our communities better. We seek individuals who are proactive, involved, and eager to make a difference.
