About This Role
We are seeking a qualified Electrician who will be responsible for delivering high‑quality electrical maintenance, repair, installation, and compliance support across the school estate, ensuring all electrical systems operate safely, efficiently and in full compliance with UK legislation (BS 7671, Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974). Working as a key member of the Estates Team, the Electrician supports a safe, secure, and fully functional learning environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out planned preventative maintenance and responsive repairs on all electrical systems and equipment across the school estate.
* Install, maintain and upgrade electrical systems including lighting, sockets, emergency lighting, fire alarm systems and small power installations.
* Inspect and test electrical systems in accordance with the 18th Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
* Maintain and document statutory compliance tasks, including emergency lighting tests, PAT testing and RCD checks.
* Diagnose faults accurately and carry out safe, effective repairs using appropriate tools and materials.
* Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams and technical specifications.
* Work alongside external contractors on school developments and larger electrical refurbishment projects.
* Liaise with contractors to ensure safe working practices while on site.
* Respond to emergency call‑outs and urgent repairs as part of a rota system.
* Assist with general site maintenance tasks and provide operational support for school events where required.
* Maintain safe working areas and ensure all tools and equipment are used and stored safely.
* Carry out any other duties reasonably requested by the Principal or Estates Leadership Team.
Qualifications / Requirements
* Support and uphold the Catholic ethos of New Hall School.
* Hold an appropriate professional accreditation (e.g., 17th Edition or equivalent).
* Strong understanding of UK electrical safety standards and statutory compliance requirements.
* Practical knowledge and experience of electrical maintenance (power supplies, lighting and alarm systems, motors, controls and portable appliances).
* Competent in using electrical tools, diagnostic instruments and testing equipment and able to diagnose faults and report findings accurately.
* Previous experience working in a facilities or site services environment, preferably in schools or public buildings.
* Ability to work independently from plans, schedules and instructions.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills, especially when engaging with staff, pupils and contractors.
* Full, clean driving licence (drivers).
* NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent).
* City & Guilds 2382‑22 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations).
