Associate / Senior Associate - Construction
Location: Guildford (hybrid role office based 2-3 days per week)
Practice Area: Construction & Engineering
Salary: £65-78.5K base (dependent on PQE) plus profit share, bonuses and extensive benefits package
Role & Responsibilities
This is an exciting opportunity to join a Legal 500 Band 1-ranked Construction Team, part of a wider Real Estate department. You will contribute to the team's ongoing success and gain exposure to high-value disputes and complex construction projects in diverse sectors including logistics, education, and manufacturing.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Advising on a range of contentious and non-contentious construction matters
2. Representing clients in dispute resolution proceedings and offering early-stage risk mitigation advice
3. Leading on the drafting and negotiation of construction contracts, including JCT, NEC, and bespoke forms
4. Contributing to the ongoing development and success of the team through business development and client relationship initiatives
5. Supporting and participating in client-focused activities such as case law workshops and sector events
6. Benefiting from paralegal and knowledge lawyer support, as well as access to industry-leading online legal resources
Lawyers - Private Practice,Construction,contentious
The successful candidate will have:
7. Contentious experience including adjudication, arbitration, and litigation in the Technology and Construction Court (TCC)
8. A proven ability to provide early-stage, commercial, and practical advice on distressed projects
9. Familiarity with payment disputes, professional negligence, delays, and defective works claims
10. Non-contentious expertise in advising on and leading transactions, drafting and negotiating construction contracts and ancillary agreements, and providing project lifecycle support
11. Experience acting for a broad client base including employers, main contractors, sub-contractors, and construction professionals
12. A strong academic record and experience typically gained from a major City, national or regional law firm
13. A genuine interest in the construction and engineering sectors
14. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a collaborative, team-oriented approach
