We are looking for an enthusiastic and flexible band 7 Psychologist (0.6WTE) with some skills in and experience of working in paediatrics, to join the paediatric oncology psychology service at Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital for a one year fixed term maternity cover. We are wanting someone with well-developed general skills in working with children and families and multidisciplinary working. We are looking with someone with CBT or ACT skills, and knowledge of attachment and systemic based models who is keen to develop their skills in working within paediatric MDT settings.
Responsibilities
* Provide psychological support to children and young people aged 0-19 years and their families under the care of the paediatric oncology medical team at Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital. There is an in- and outpatient workload for patients on current treatment and receiving long term follow up. It will involve direct assessment and intervention with individuals and families as well as facilitating group work with children and with parents.
* Provide specialist consultation and advice on patients’ psychological care regularly to medical colleagues on the oncology daycare ward and at psychosocial and multidisciplinary team meetings.
* Be a member of the wider Paediatric Psychological Support Service (PPSS) at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital as well as the Brighton & Hove Psychology team, collaborating with teams across Specialist CAMHS, Learning Disability, Community Child Health and Neuro-developmental disorders, Social Services and Education.
* Engage in innovative audit, evaluation and research projects and contribute to developing and delivering groups and workshops (e.g., Mindfulness groups adapted for adolescents within Specialist CAMHS and the acute paediatric hospital; CBT for anxiety groups for young people with ASD and their parents; DBT groups).
* Work closely with the paediatric oncology psychology service to provide a specialist clinical psychology service to patients and their family members across the cancer pathway, from active treatment to long term follow up. Be physically located on the oncology daycare ward for part of the role to provide consultation on psychological care and a responsive psychology service to oncology patients receiving treatment on daycare and as inpatients.
* Collaborate with PPSS colleagues including psychologists working with Cystic Fibrosis, Oncology, Diabetes and CFS/ME, and those in the Function First team for medically unexplained physical symptoms. Contribute to a range of innovative interventions and research projects.

Organisation and Team
* The post holder will be a member of the wider Paediatric Psychological Support Service (PPSS) and the Brighton & Hove Psychology team, a lively and active team of psychologists across Specialist CAMHS, Learning Disability, Community Child Health, Neuro-developmental disorders, Social Services and Education.
* The PPSS service offers a range of innovative interventions, including Forest School workshops, Mindfulness and ACT groups, EMDR and Tree of Life therapies, and is involved in a number of research projects.
Location and Work Environment
The post holder will be well integrated within the paediatric medical oncology team and be physically located on the oncology daycare ward for part of the role to provide consultation on the psychological care of patients and a responsive psychology service to oncology patients receiving treatment on daycare and as inpatients.
