Key Responsibilities
1. Generating stories: Develop and pitch original story ideas that resonate with our readers and reflect the diverse interests of the Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole areas.
2. Reporting: Conduct thorough research, interviews, and investigations to produce accurate, balanced, and compelling news stories.
3. Writing: Write clear, concise, and engaging articles for both print and digital platforms, adhering to our editorial standards and deadlines.
4. Multimedia Content: Utilise your multimedia skills to create and edit video content, enhancing the storytelling experience for our audience.
5. Community Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with local contacts, sources, and community leaders to stay informed about important issues and events.
6. Collaboration: Work closely with editors, photographers, and other reporters to ensure comprehensive coverage of news stories.
7. Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends and best practices, continuously improving your journalism skills and knowledge.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
1. Excellent writing and editing skills, with strong attention to detail.
2. A strong understanding of journalistic principles and practices.
3. Excellent working knowledge of relevant media law and adherence to the Editors’ Code of Conduct.
4. Creativity and innovation, with a willingness to experiment with new approaches and techniques.
5. Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
6. Must have a clean driving licence and a car.
