Overview
School of Health Sciences
The Mission of the School of Health Sciences is: To champion and promote excellent medical, health and social care science, research, scholarship, teaching and learning, quality and values with people who use services, practitioners and stakeholders. To promote language and cultural competence relevant to local, national and international partners, and to provide an inclusive culture and environment for staff and students within the School.
The School’s aims are:
1. To be forward looking and sustainable and aspire to achieving the University's Strategy 2030 pillars and themes and the University's Global Framework.
2. To prepare and support medical, health and social care practitioners to engage in lifelong learning and reflective practice that will promote excellent standards in evidence-based practice.
3. To work in partnership with people who use services, medical, health and social care providers and agencies within Wales, but also cross-border, nationally and internationally on medical, health and social care research, science, education, and scholarship.
4. To maintain excellence in medical, health and social care teaching, which is informed by research and coproduced by staff, students, service users and clinicians, whilst maintaining societal shared values and enhancing opportunities for employability.
5. To champion and promote scholarship, science and research applied to medical, health and social care policy and practice, in order to evaluate, develop and, wherever possible, improve professional practice.
6. To champion principles of intelligent kindness and compassionate leadership, adopting the most appropriate teaching and learning methods that offer students choice, flexibility, and provide inter-professional learning opportunities. Concurrently instilling respect for all professions, developing social and emotional intelligence and resilience.
7. To instil language and cultural competence in medical, health and social care practitioners. To embed language and cultural awareness in medical, health and social care research and practice and respond sensitively to the language needs of Welsh speakers.
8. To lead research of the highest standard that improves lives and healthcare services regionally, nationally and globally.
Public Health Wales is the national public health agency in Wales and exists to protect and improve health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities for people in Wales and beyond. Recognising its national and international role, expertise and achievements, the World Health Organization (WHO) designated the Policy and International Health Directorate at Public Health Wales a WHO Collaborating Centre on ‘Investment for Health and Well-being’ (WHO CC), focusing on taking forward a sustainable early intervention, people-centred, long-term investment approach across sectors and organisations.
The PHCU, hosted by Bangor University, links directly into the WHOCC and aims to respond to emerging needs for academic support in line with Public Health Wales’ strategic priorities:

Purpose of the Job
The post will provide research support to a programme of work being implemented by the Public Health Collaborating Unit; a Public Health/Academic collaborative funded by Public Health Wales. The post holder will be part of the School of Health at Bangor University and based in their academic offices in Wrexham.
The post-holder will support an evaluation of trauma-informed training being conducted nationally in Wales.
The work plan will be led by Dr Kat Ford (Research Fellow) at Bangor University and Professor Karen Hughes (Research and Capacity Development Manager) at Public Health Wales.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
15. To support the research team in the collection and analysis of qualitative data. This may include: organising and undertaking semi-structured interviews / taking consent / data management, coding and analyses / preparation of research outputs.
16. To support the research team in the analysis of quantitative data. This may include: data management / data coding / data analyses / preparation of tables and figures for research outputs.
17. To contribute to evidence reviews. This may include: study selection / data extraction / quality assessment.
18. To contribute to the development of research outputs. This may include: supporting the production of reports and journal publications / helping in the preparation of materials for presentation to conferences / liaising with external providers for design and translation of research outcomes.
19. To assist and support the administration of the projects. This may include; arranging research related meetings / arranging data collection / circulating information / preparing reports for funders.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
20. The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities.

Person Specification
Qualifications/Training
Essential:
24. Postgraduate (Masters) degree with a strong research component in a health, public health or other psychological or sociological subject.
Experience/Knowledge
Essential:
25. Previous experience of techniques related to the area of research, including undertaking qualitative research and analysing quantitative data.
26. Previous experience of working in applied public health research.
27. Previous experience of systematic literature reviews.
28. Understanding and application of research and information governance processes, policies and procedures.
29. Knowledge and interest in specific areas related to the post.
Skills/Abilities

31. Ability to use a range of research related software (e.g. SPSS or R, NViVO)
