Medical Laboratory Assistant

Band 3 Medical Laboratory Assistant (Virology)
The University Hospital of North Midlands, Mid Cheshire and East Cheshire NHS Trusts form the North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Service, a pathology network formed in line with an NHSI directive.
We are looking for a Medical Laboratory Assistant to work within our Virology department.
The post holder will be required to perform a range of routine and non-routine tasks within Pathology following Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including the Pathology Quality Policy, to provide clerical and technical support to Biomedical Scientists in order to ensure a high quality service in all areas of the relevant Pathology Discipline.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Good standard of Education demonstrated by GCSEs or equivalent (in Maths, English and a Science subject)
* Relevant NVQ level 2 or equivalent
* NVQ level 3 in Clinical Laboratory Support
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
* Basic level of theoretical technical knowledge of the role
* Awareness of Health and Safety matters
* Understanding the importance of confidentiality and data quality
* Previous experience of working in a Laboratory environment
* To have intermediate and accurate IT skills
* Work under pressure, prioritise workload and work to deadlines
* Communicate effectively and accurately with all levels of staff
* Experience of working within the NHS
* Experience of demonstrating tasks to others
Personal Qualities
* Prepared to work flexibly including participating in weekend and other out of hours rotas as necessary
* Professional personal presentation and manner
