Global Head of Environmental Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S)
Job Summary
Lead global enterprise strategy, governance, and performance of Environmental Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S) across all functions in DePuy Synthes. Report to the VP Global RE, FM & Corporate Operations. Serve as senior authority for EHS&S risk, compliance, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
* Define and lead the global EHS&S strategy, ensuring alignment with enterprise risk management, facilities strategy, and business priorities across R&D, Supply Chain, Facilities, and Commercial functions.
* Establish enterprise-level governance, standards, and management systems for environmental protection, occupational health & safety, and sustainability, ensuring consistent implementation and accountability worldwide.
* Serve as senior executive owner of EHS&S risk, overseeing significant risks, incidents, regulatory matters, and emerging issues, and ensuring appropriate escalation and mitigation.
* Lead and develop a global EHS&S leadership organization, building capability, succession, and leadership depth.
* Oversee enterprise EHS&S performance monitoring and assurance, including audits, metrics, and corrective actions, driving continuous improvement.
* Act as strategic advisor to executive leadership on EHS&S implications of business strategy, capital investments, acquisitions, and transformation initiatives.
* Represent the organization externally with regulators, industry bodies, and other stakeholders on EHS&S and sustainability matters.
* Provide executive leadership during crisis management involving significant safety, environmental, or sustainability risk.
* Sponsor enterprise-wide EHS&S transformation, capability‑building, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related discipline.
Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in environmental, health, safety, sustainability, facilities risk, operations or related disciplines, including senior leadership roles with global scope.
Skills & Abilities:
* Demonstrated global leadership experience with strategy, governance, and performance.
* Ability to lead large, globally distributed organizations with functional and regional structures.
* Deep expertise in environmental, health, safety, and sustainability management systems, regulatory compliance, and enterprise risk management.
* Experience advising executive leadership on EHS&S risks, opportunities, and business strategy implications.
* Exceptional leadership presence, judgment, and communication skills at executive and board‑adjacent levels.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Advanced degree in a relevant technical, scientific, or business discipline.
Experience: Leading EHS&S at an enterprise or sector level; familiarity with global sustainability frameworks and external reporting; integrating EHS&S with facilities, risk management, and governance.
Travel & People Management
Travel Required: Yes, approximately 25–35% domestic and international.
People Management Experience: Extensive global leadership experience, including direct and indirect reports.
