Overview
The role within the Voluntary Services Department is to provide volunteering opportunities in local communities to enhance the experience of patients and visitors to hospital and community sites, and to support staff. This position focuses on recruitment and onboarding of volunteer applicants, placing volunteers, and maintaining strong relationships to ensure volunteers feel engaged, valued and empowered.
Responsibilities
* Assist in the delivery of patient experience initiatives by offering volunteer roles to departments/wards that enhance patient care.
* Support recruitment and onboarding of volunteers, coordinating placements and maintaining positive relationships with volunteers.
* Engage with volunteers before, during and after placements to ensure a positive and beneficial experience for patients, the organisation and the volunteers themselves.
* Assist with recruitment and coordination of the volunteer team to deliver outstanding contributions to patient and staff experiences.
* Support informal interviews to assess suitability of volunteers for specific roles.
* Liaise with area or department staff to promote and engage volunteers effectively.
* Deal with sensitive and confidential matters professionally and in line with data protection and confidentiality guidelines and policies.
* Ensure robust recruitment checks are completed.
* Provide effective coordination for volunteers and identify volunteering opportunities.
* Support the introduction of new volunteers into clinical areas, complete local inductions and promote positive working relationships with staff in departments/wards.
* Engage with volunteers to provide proactive communications through planned support.
* Engage with a diverse team of volunteers and encourage their development.
* Ensure volunteer roles have the desired impact and liaise with staff at all levels, both clinical and non-clinical.
