The Chair of the Board provides strategic leadership to the organisation, ensuring the Board of Trustees fulfils its duties in governing and supporting the charity.

What are we looking for?

Personal Attributes & Skills Strong commitment to LGBTQ+ equality, inclusion, and community empowerment. Experience of chairing meetings or leading boards/committees (desirable, but not essential). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders. Ability to think strategically and support effective governance. Confidence in acting as a public ambassador for the charity. Collaborative, supportive, and inclusive leadership style.

What will you be doing?

Purpose of the Role The Chair of the Board provides strategic leadership to the organisation, ensuring the Board of Trustees fulfils its duties in governing and supporting the charity. They act as an ambassador for the organisation within Salford and beyond, ensuring it remains focused on its mission delivering Salford's annual Pride celebration and other events, projects, and initiatives that support and benefit the local LGBTQ+ community. Key Responsibilities Lead the Board in fulfilling its responsibilities, ensuring strong governance and compliance with charity law, regulations, and the organisation's constitution. Ensure the organisation remains true to its vision, mission, and values, centring the needs of the LGBTQ+ community. Facilitate effective decision-making by the Board, ensuring all trustees contribute and that diverse voices are heard. Support the Board in developing and overseeing the charity's strategic direction. Build and maintain a positive working relationship with the Board of Trustees, and the volunteer committee. Provide leadership to the Board in its support of volunteers, recognising their contributions and ensuring their wellbeing. Act as a key spokesperson and ambassador for the organisation, representing it at external meetings, events, and with partners and stakeholders. Chair meetings of the Board effectively, ensuring agendas are clear, discussions are inclusive, and decisions are documented and actioned. Encourage open and constructive debate, fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration. Ensure the Board regularly reviews its own effectiveness and addresses any development needs. Work with trustees and the committee to ensure the sustainability of the organisation, including overseeing fundraising and financial stewardship. Provide oversight of risk management, safeguarding, equality, and inclusion within the charity's work. Support long-term planning for Salford Pride and related projects, ensuring they remain impactful and community-led.
