Overview
Clinical / Counselling Psychologist Band 7/8a. This is a fixed term post covering maternity leave. The role is part-time at 0.6 WTE, based with the Newham Mentalisation Based Therapy Service in East London. The service offers a full MBT program to individuals with Complex Emotional Needs. We welcome applicants with experience in MBT and a HCPC registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist or an Allied Professional.
Responsibilities
* Provide a clinical service to patients open to the Newham Mentalisation Based Therapy Service and offer expert support and advice to other team members.
* Undertake specialist psychological assessment of patients referred to the Mentalisation Based Therapy Service and provide specialist reports to referrers and patients.
* Formulate and implement treatment plans and provide specialist Mentalisation-Based therapy to patients under the care of the service.
* Offer clinical supervision to colleagues and provide consultation to professionals and agencies.
* Liaise with other professionals to contribute to continuity of care across services.
* Work autonomously within professional guidelines and the team’s policies and procedures.
* Take a lead role in providing a treatment approach for patients with complex needs, including specialist assessment, intervention and treatment.
* Participate in developing and contributing to ongoing research within the specialist service.
Qualifications
* Essential Doctorate in Clinical / Counselling Psychology or equivalence (statement of equivalence and eligibility for BPS CPsychol / Chartered Psychologist) and HCPC registration.
* Desirable Training in MBT; further training in a therapeutic modality relevant to personality disorder.
Experience
* Essential Experience with patients who have complex emotional needs (e.g., personality disorder) and/or risk of self-harm; delivering therapeutic interventions to individuals with Complex Emotional Needs; working in a multidisciplinary team with adults with severe and enduring mental health problems; experience of group work; experience delivering training/consultation and providing clinical supervision; experience across at least two therapeutic modalities.
* Desirable Experience applying psychology/therapy across different cultural contexts.
Knowledge and Skills
* Psychological assessment, intervention and management using theoretical models to develop formulations; ability to formulate and tailor treatment accordingly.
* Clear communication of technical/clinical information to diverse recipients and ability to produce letters, reports and documentation.
* Risk assessment skills for patients with mental health problems and complex emotional needs; capacity to work calmly with traumatic content and strong emotions.
* Ability to provide consultation to other professionals and non-professional groups; knowledge of Personality Disorder diagnosis; experience working in multidisciplinary settings; knowledge of mental health legislation; CPD evidence; culturally competent service delivery.
Desirable Knowledge
* Knowledge of psychoanalytic models and developmental processes related to Personality Disorder (e.g., MBT, TFP).

* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as part of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975 (Exceptions Order).
* UK Registration: current UK professional registration (NHS Careers guidance).
