An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated HCPC registered Clinical Scientist/Healthcare Scientist in the Molecular Pathology service based in NHS Lothian (Western General Hospital, the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and will include Lauriston site in 25/26). The laboratory is part of the Scottish Strategic Network for Genomic Medicine funded by National Services Division to provide Genetic and Molecular Pathology diagnostic testing in Scotland. Applications are invited from scientists with good interpersonal skills with a background in molecular pathology / cancer genomics, with a strong interest in developing diagnostic services and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

The successful applicant will have a high level of responsibility in the provision of specialist molecular testing including analysis, interpretation and reporting of investigations and responsibility for the quality standards required by the service. Within this role the post-holder will be expected to contribute to the development of targeted gene panel-based approaches using next generation sequencing in accordance with the requirements of the department.

All applicants should have experience working in a diagnostic laboratory and have specialist clinical and scientific knowledge in the diagnosis and monitoring of solid tumours and haematological malignancies. Knowledge of a range of molecular methodologies and experience in the use of specialist analytical software, combined with interpretation of a range of scientific data and reporting of results in a range of scenarios is preferable.
