Walker Residential is currently looking for Direct Care Counselors on a full and/or part-time basis for their Needham campus. Direct Care Counselors act as members of a multidisciplinary treatment team in a residential and school program for children with severe emotional and behavioral difficulties. The Counselor will focus on social, recreational, and behavioral needs of children, as well as ensure that their physical and emotional needs are met daily.
Essential Functions for this position include:
1. Plan and implement social and recreational activities for children.
2. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of children.
3. Participate in supervision and professional development opportunities offered at Walker.
4. Provide a therapeutic milieu environment, maintaining safety and meeting the physical needs of children.
5. Implement treatment protocols outlined in children’s treatment plans, IEPs, and crisis management plans.
6. Attend required meetings and complete administrative reports related to childcare.
7. Supervise children directly.
8. Apply Walker’s childcare model, including therapeutic crisis intervention and physical restraint techniques.
9. Administer medication following Walker’s policies and procedures.
10. Be receptive to supervision and ongoing training.
11. Work collaboratively and demonstrate flexibility.
12. Respond quickly and safely to emergencies.
13. Work effectively in stressful and fast-paced environments.
14. Participate in training sessions to learn and apply therapeutic crisis intervention skills.
15. Engage in activities with children.
16. Stand and work for extended periods, with physical activities such as bending, stretching, and lifting as needed.
17. Perform therapeutic physical interventions when necessary.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in a similar setting is preferred. A valid MA driver’s license is required.
