An opportunity has arisen to join our team at the Ipswich base within ESNEFT.
We are inviting applications for a full-time substantive post in the ESNEFT infection service, suitable for candidates on the specialist register with a qualification in Medical Microbiology, consultants dual accredited in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, or Consultant Clinical Scientists who have completed a training programme in Medical Microbiology.
For medical consultants, qualifications required are FRCPath(UK) or equivalent, full GMC registration, inclusion on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council in Medical Microbiology or Microbiology/Infectious Diseases, and within six months of CCT or its equivalent at interview date.
Candidates applying as Consultant Clinical Scientists are expected to have completed a recognised Higher Specialty Scientific Training (HSST) programme in Medical Microbiology and to have passed the FRCPath(UK) examinations for infection training.
DUTIES OF THE POST
This job description covers the main responsibilities of the role. Applicants are encouraged to enquire about any points they are unsure of.
1. To provide leadership in the management, provision, and development of Microbiology and Infection Control Services for the department.
2. To undertake laboratory work, including advice regarding diagnostic samples, validation and interpretation of results, and involvement in policy and procedure development for sample examination.
3. To participate in patient diagnosis and management by liaising with patients, clinicians, and other hospital and community staff.
4. To be involved in business planning, introducing new methods, and planning for staff and equipment.
5. To regularly review departmental policies, SOPs, and protocols in line with Trust policies on document control and risk management.
6. To maintain effective communication and engagement with clinical colleagues and service users, including consultants in communicable disease control and health protection.
7. To advise on infection control issues in conjunction with microbiology and infection control nursing colleagues.
