About the apprenticeship
Duties
Support for Students
Supervising and providing special support for students, including some with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
Assisting with the learning and development of each student, including implementing Individual Education/Behavior Plans and Personal Care programs – including toileting, feeding, and mobility.
Following training, administering medication in accordance with procedures and policies for the ALN and schools.
Promoting inclusion and acceptance of every student.
Encouraging students to interact with others and participate in activities under the teacher’s guidance.
Setting challenging and extended expectations and promoting self-respect and independence.
Under the teacher’s guidance, providing feedback to students regarding progress and achievement.
Applying strategies to encourage independence and self-confidence.
Providing effective feedback to students regarding programs and recognizing and rewarding achievement
Requirements
Qualifications
GCSE Grade A-C Experience
Working with children of the appropriate age or caring for them.
Working on a one-to-one basis with pupils with additional needs.
Qualifications
Good numeracy/literacy skills.
Training in relevant strategies to support learning.
First aid training as appropriate.
Knowledge/Skills
Effective learning materials to support teaching and learning.
Using basic equipment and technology, e.g., video, photocopier.
Understanding relevant policies/practice codes and awareness of relevant legislation.
General understanding of the national/foundation stage, 14-19 curriculum pathways, and other appropriate learning programs/strategies.
Basic understanding of child development and learning.
The ability to relate well to children and adults.
Working constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom functions and responsibilities and your own role within them.
