Salary: £120k–£130k + equity + bonus + benefits.

About the role
As the Sole Counsel this is your chance to build the legal function from the ground up. The remit includes commercial contracting, data protection and privacy, compliance, regulatory matters, corporate work and complex HR/employment-related escalations.
Responsibilities include:
* Provide clear, pragmatic legal advice to internal stakeholders on commercial, regulatory, operational, and corporate matters.
* Draft, review, and negotiate a range of agreements, including commercial contracts, SaaS/vendor agreements, outsourcing agreements, and open-source licences.
* Support governance processes and regulatory change initiatives, ensuring the business stays aligned with legal requirements.
* Identify, assess, and manage legal risks, escalating high-risk or complex matters and engaging external legal advisers when appropriate.
* Support GDPR and wider data protection compliance activities, including drafting/reviewing DPAs, conducting DPIAs, and advising on privacy-related queries.
* Provide legal advice on complex or sensitive HR matters, including employee relations issues, terminations, grievances, and investigations.
About you
Ideally you will be 5-10PQE UK qualified lawyer and already be working in a VC or PE backed scale-up within the B2B data, digital or technology industry. You must be strong commercial lawyer with an interest in AI. This role would suit someone who enjoys being a sole counsel or someone who is a senior counsel in a team and looking for a step up in their career and more ownership. You must be pragmatic, low ego, commercially sharp, and confident making decisions.
