About Us
We are currently seeking a Level 2 Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative Apprentice to join our Highways team!
As an apprentice, you’ll gain hands-on experience working at a company alongside experienced staff, developing new skills.
Responsibilities
* Assisting and undertaking the maintenance and construction of roads and sewers, including setting out, concrete shuttering and laying, paving slabs, setts, kerbs, surface preparation, and laying tarmac.
* Maintaining surface water drainage systems, gullies, traps, and performing winter maintenance operations such as salt spreading and flood relief.
* Gully cleansing, graffiti removal, erection and removal of signs and barriers, and preparation, application, compaction, and removal of soils and other materials.
* Working on highways furniture and equipment, including erection, fixing, and dismantling.
* Assisting in painting and general maintenance of the highway environment.
* Supporting skilled and specialist operatives.
* Potentially driving light vehicles with simple attachments, performing vehicle checks, and operating powered hand tools, minor plant, and machinery, such as floor saws, abrasive wheels, hydraulic breakers, vibrating plates, compactors, alvac cranes, and powered rollers.
* Complying with health and safety policies to ensure the safety of the workforce and the public.
* Representing Middlesbrough Council professionally during contact with council members and the public.
Training
An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or training organization, with at least 20% of working hours dedicated to training or studying.
