Site Engineer – Civil Engineering & Groundworks We are currently representing a leading contractor in the civil engineering and groundworks sector, who are looking to appoint a Site Engineer to join their high-performing team on a major project based in Edinburgh. The Role As Site Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the technical and operational delivery of the project. You will be responsible for interpreting engineering information, ensuring accurate setting out, and effectively communicating technical requirements to site teams to maintain programme and budget targets. You will also contribute to maintaining high standards across health & safety, quality, and sustainability, while supporting junior team members in their development. Key Responsibilities Promote safe working practices and support project HSES objectives Mentor and support Graduate, Assistant, and Apprentice Engineers Collaborate with site teams to ensure smooth project delivery Interpret and communicate engineering drawings and specifications Produce mark-ups, sketches, and calculations to support site activities Raise RFIs and Technical Queries to resolve design discrepancies Ensure all engineering information used on-site is current and approved Carry out accurate setting out and dimensional control Maintain and verify survey control systems Produce as-built records in line with project requirements Manage and maintain survey equipment and calibration Support the delivery of the project Quality Plan Conduct site inspections and address minor quality issues Interpret specifications and work with Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) Manage and close out Permits to Work Assist with material take-offs, requisitions, and usage tracking Support logistics planning and coordination Assist with inspections and ensure compliance with procedures Act as Temporary Works Inspector/Supervisor when required Identify potential variations and escalate appropriately Work in line with project programme and contractual requirements About You HNC (or higher) in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Structural Engineering Proven experience in setting out and engineering delivery, ideally on concrete frame or similar projects Strong understanding of surveying techniques and equipment, with the ability to guide others Experience using CAD software for data transfer (EDM/survey equipment preferred) Previous experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers Strong communication skills and attention to detail What’s on Offer Competitive Salary Private Health Insurance Company Car / Car Allowance Opportunity to work on a major, high-profile project Supportive and collaborative team environment Career progression and professional development opportunities
