Senior Geologist

The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Geologist to join a major infrastructure contractor delivering a large-scale renewable energy project in the north of Scotland.
This role will support the delivery of complex civil engineering and ground engineering works by providing geological expertise across construction activities, site investigations, ground assessments, and geotechnical operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Geological & Ground Engineering Support
Provide geological support across construction and infrastructure activities on site.
Interpret geological and geotechnical data to support project planning and delivery.
Monitor ground conditions and advise project teams on geological risks and constraints.
Support excavation, tunnelling, earthworks, slope stability, and foundation activities where applicable.
Review site investigation data and contribute to geological and geotechnical reporting.Site Investigation & Monitoring
Supervise and coordinate ground investigation works, drilling operations, sampling, and testing activities.
Maintain accurate geological records, logs, and site documentation.
Carry out inspections and monitoring of ground conditions during construction activities.
Identify and escalate any unforeseen ground conditions or geological hazards.Health, Safety & Environmental
Promote and maintain high standards of Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality compliance across all site activities.
Ensure geological and ground investigation activities are carried out in accordance with approved procedures and safe systems of work.
Support risk assessments, method statements, and permit processes.
Assist with incident investigations, close calls, and continuous improvement initiatives.Project Coordination
Work closely with engineering, construction, and design teams to support project delivery.
Liaise with subcontractors, consultants, and laboratory providers to coordinate geological and testing activities.
Contribute to programme planning and provide technical input into construction methodologies.
Support the management of project risks associated with ground conditions and geological uncertainty.Reporting & Documentation
Prepare and review geological logs, factual reports, and interpretive reports.
Maintain accurate records and ensure documentation is uploaded to project systems.
Contribute to technical reports, progress updates, and quality documentation.
Assist with compliance reporting and audit activities.Candidate Requirements
Proven experience working as a Geologist or Senior Geologist within major civil engineering, infrastructure, energy, tunnelling, or construction projects.
Strong understanding of geological mapping, logging, and ground investigation techniques.
Experience interpreting geotechnical and geological data within live construction environments.
Knowledge of earthworks, rock excavation, tunnelling, or hydro/infrastructure construction desirable.
Strong awareness of Health & Safety regulations and site compliance requirements.
Excellent communication and coordination skills with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.Qualifications & Certifications
Degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline
CSCS Card
Full UK Driving Licence
Membership of a relevant professional body desirable
