The Transport Planner is responsible for the efficient planning, coordination, and quality control of transport operations. This role ensures that deliveries are planned effectively, vehicles are utilised correctly, and goods are accurately picked, checked, and loaded into the correct cages for distribution. The Transport Planner will work closely with drivers, warehouse teams, and management to maintain compliance, safety, and service standards.
The initial training period will have working hours of 05:00am - 14:00pm. On passing training, this will move to hours of 13:00pm - 22:00pm.
Responsibilities:
Transport Planning & Coordination
* Plan daily and weekly transport schedules to ensure timely and cost-effective deliveries.
* Allocate vehicles and drivers in line with operational requirements and availability.
* Monitor routes and make real-time adjustments to resolve issues such as delays, shortages, or operational changes.
* Liaise with drivers to communicate routes, delivery instructions, and any changes to plans.
Quality Control (QC) & Load Accuracy
* Take responsibility for quality control processes relating to outbound loads.
* Ensure the correct items are picked, checked, and placed into the correct cages for delivery.
* Work closely with warehouse staff to resolve discrepancies, shortages, or errors before dispatch.
* Investigate and report any loading or delivery errors, implementing corrective actions where required.
Compliance & Standards
* Ensure transport operations align with FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) standards.
* Support compliance with driver Working Time Directive (WTD) regulations.
* Maintain awareness of HGV legal obligations, including drivers' hours, tachograph rules, and vehicle compliance.
* Assist in preparations for audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives relating to transport compliance.
Communication & Administration
* Maintain accurate transport records, schedules, and delivery documentation.
* Communicate effectively with internal departments and external stakeholders.
* Provide operational support and reporting to the Transport Manager as required.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
* Previous experience in a transport planning or logistics role.
* Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
* Good attention to detail, particularly in relation to QC and load accuracy.
* Confident communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
* Knowledge of FORS standards and compliance requirements.
* Understanding of Driver Working Time Directive (WTD).
* Awareness of HGV legal and operational obligations.
* Experience working closely with warehouse or distribution teams.
