The role is based in the PayPoint head office in Welwyn Garden City and reports into the Head of Legal- Card Services. This role involves a wide range of experience and activities and will form part of the wider PayPoint Group Legal Team of 10 lawyers.
Overview
The role focuses on legal and regulatory matters relating to PayPoint Group’s cards and payments business activities, including structuring regulated and unregulated activity under the Consumer Credit Act and Payment Services Regulations as appropriate. It also supports other business areas that work alongside the card and payments business, drafts and negotiates commercial contracts, and supports data protection matters across group entities.
Main responsibilities
* Drafting and negotiating a range of commercial contracts to support card and payments business activities, including supplier, marketing and client/customer contracts.
* Advising on regulatory developments and briefing business stakeholders.
* Researching and analysing documents, legislation, case law and regulatory requirements to ensure the accuracy of advice and procedures.
* Horizon scanning and reviewing changes and developments in the law and relevant regulations and assessing their impact on the business.
* Day to day support on data protection matters under the review and management of the DPO.
* Supporting the wider business including review of both regulated and unregulated marketing activity and sales and operational processes.
* Collaboration with other members of Legal and Compliance Teams to support a One Team approach.
Qualifications and experience
* Solicitor qualified in England and Wales. The role would suit a lawyer of at least 2 years post qualification, although other applicants will also be considered.
* Experience of drafting contracts and providing written and verbal legal advice on commercial and regulatory matters.
* Experience of working in an FCA regulated business with understanding of regulatory principles and themes.
* Experience of GDPR, data protection and data security issues.
* Effective negotiating skills and attention to detail.
* Strength in communicating complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
Highly desirable
* Experience of advising on FCA regulatory matters.
* Experience of advising on consumer credit and payment services would be preferable but is not essential.
* Prior in-house experience.
