Job summary
An opportunity has arisen to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Clinical Leader for Same Day Emergency Care.
Your main role will be to answer the coordinator's referral phone and accept or decline all medical referrals received via phone, face-to-face, or email.
You will apply your experience and medical knowledge to triage patients appropriately, ensuring they receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
You will communicate effectively over the phone, building positive relationships with internal and external partners.
You will lead and support the department daily, ensuring the effective flow of patients, communicating with the team, and addressing any issues.
Main duties of the job
SDEC is evolving to meet service user needs. You will help lead changes and suggest improvements to enhance patient care.
You must be highly motivated, open to new challenges, and prepared to lead the unit with a focus on governance, patient care, quality, and team development.

We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital, Royal Lancaster Infirmary, and Westmorland General Hospital, along with community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

Person Specification
Education
* Essential: 1st level registered nurse, recent post-basic clinical qualification, mentoring/assessing or teaching qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, Professional Trainers Certificate)
* Desirable: Leadership development or working towards leadership qualification, ECDL or equivalent
Experience
* Essential: Recent senior-level experience in the specialty, evidence of clinical competence, understanding of standards, staff development experience
* Desirable: Triage trained
Skills
* Essential: ILS/ALERT, peripheral venous cannulation, physical assessment, IV administration, venipuncture, ECG
* Desirable: ALS
Additional requirements include a DBS check and current UK professional registration.
