Title: Tissue Viability Clinical Nurse Specialist – Band 7
Location: Newham University Hospital, Glen Road, London, E13 8SL
Pay: £53,751 to £60,651 a year per annum inc
Contract: Permanent; Working pattern: Full-time; Monday‑Friday 9‑5pm
Responsibilities
* Provide autonomous specialist, holistic patient‑centred care and harm‑reducing clinical and management solutions to achieve skin integrity, optimal wound healing and preservation of tissue health.
* Provide specialist, expert advice and education to support clinical teams to deliver safe and compassionate care, reduce harm and improve patient experience.
* Assist in Trust‑wide pressure ulcer reduction campaigns working in partnership with the Tissue Viability Hospital Service Lead and site Directors of Nursing to sustain and embed the improvements.
* Provide expert advice on Tissue Viability‑related resources, equipment and products required for safe and effective care across Barts Health.
* Develop, review, and evaluate Trust‑wide Tissue Viability policies, protocols/guidelines and adapt regional and national guidelines for local use.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience – Evidence of experience and knowledge in Tissue Viability; supporting practitioners; multidisciplinary teamwork; senior leadership; setting up and working within clinical governance frameworks; autonomy and workload coordination; ability to work under pressure; high standards of record keeping; leading quality improvement projects; formal and informal teaching.
* Skills – Clinical knowledge in tissue viability, holistic assessment, complex wound assessment, treatment planning; leg ulcer management; negative wound pressure therapy; wound debridement; personal accountability; influencing and negotiating; problem‑solving; customer service; organisational flexibility; teaching skills; motivating influence.
* Knowledge – Audit cycle; Governance, PSIRF and service area principles; national guidelines; contemporary wound dressings and technologies; quality improvement techniques; pressure‑relieving equipment.
* Qualifications – Registered Nurse with current NMC registration; Graduate with relevant degree or equivalent; Recognised tissue viability qualification (level 3); Teaching Qualification.
* Communication – Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills for complex and sensitive matters.
* Other – Evidence of continued professional development; determined and self‑motivated; ability to lead by example and effect change; assertive yet professional; proactive, resourceful; strategic thinker; capable of performing duties with adaptations if necessary.
Desirable
* Managerial experience and experience of leading a team.
* Experience in managing a team (duplicate – retained for completeness).
