Role Overview
A well-established M&E contractor is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial management of mechanical and electrical building services projects across London.
The role will focus heavily on commercial administration of projects operating under JCT contracts (approximately 90% of workload). You will be responsible for managing cost control, valuations, variations, subcontractor accounts and contractual compliance across multiple live projects.
This is a commercially driven role requiring strong contract knowledge, cost management expertise and the ability to work closely with operational teams to ensure profitable project delivery.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Commercial Management
* Full commercial responsibility for allocated M&E projects.
* Preparation and submission of interim valuations and final accounts.
* Cost reporting and forecasting to senior management.
* Management of project budgets and cost control processes.
Contract Administration (JCT Focused)
* Administration of predominantly JCT form contracts.
* Management and negotiation of variations.
* Preparation and review of subcontractor packages and appointments.
* Ensuring contractual compliance and mitigation of commercial risk.
Subcontractor & Supplier Management
* Procurement of subcontract packages.
* Measurement and valuation of subcontract work.
* Agreement of subcontractor accounts and payments.
* Management of supply chain commercial relationships.
Cost Control & Risk Management
* Identify commercial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
* Monitor labour, material and plant cost expenditure.
* Support project teams with commercial advice and cost planning.
* Assist in dispute resolution and commercial negotiations where required.
Candidate Requirements
* Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within M&E or Building Services.
* Strong working knowledge of JCT contracts (essential – circa 90% JCT exposure).
* Background in Mechanical & Electrical contracting preferred.
* Building Services or Engineering qualification (Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent).
* Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
* Excellent reporting, forecasting and cost management capability.
* Ability to manage multiple London-based projects.
