Love typography, visual storytelling and the thrill of turning a brief into a book readers can't walk past? Our client is looking for a Designer to create standout covers and interiors across a busy, multi-imprint list - working with editors, marketers, illustrators and freelance creatives to deliver beautiful, effective design.
The role
As a key part of the Art Department, the Designer creates smart, creative solutions to briefs and manages a busy project list to ensure consistency, high standards and strong brand awareness. You'll design and art-direct covers and interiors across multiple genres, prepare clear visual presentations, and deliver print-ready artwork to deadline.
What you'll be doing
·Design covers and interiors (including illustrated and template-based formats where needed).
·Commission and art-direct illustrators/designers, managing feedback through to final sign-off.
·Create marketing, sales and rights assets, plus strong visuals for internal meetings.
·Keep projects on track: follow critical paths, maintain artworking standards, and flag risks early.
About you
You'll have a strong design portfolio and experience delivering print-ready work to tight schedules, with a sharp eye for typography and a collaborative approach.
·Proven experience designing book covers and/or interiors for print, from brief to final artwork.
·Excellent typographic skills and a strong understanding of layout, grids and hierarchy.
·Confident presenting concepts and rationale to stakeholders (editors, marketing, sales and authors, where applicable).
·Experience commissioning and art-directing illustrators and freelancers, giving clear feedback and keeping projects on schedule.
·Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator), plus solid file management and pre-press awareness.
·Organised and proactive, able to juggle multiple titles, maintain high artworking standards and flag risks early.
About the publisher
Our client is an established, mission-led London-based publisher (offering hybrid working) with multiple imprints and a broad list spanning general trade and children's publishing. Their independent approach blends a strong editorial focus with ambitious design and brand thinking-publishing books that connect with readers and stand out in-store and online. The Designer will join a collaborative in-house team and work with a trusted network of freelance creatives and suppliers.
