Would you like to work in a team that is at the forefront of translational research into childrens and familial kidney disease?

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced clinical trials coordinator to join the General Paediatric research operational team and be a pivotal point of contact for Paediatric Nephrology research.

Our research vision is to discover genetic causes in our cohorts with kidney disease; define predictive biomarkers in children with kidney and renal tract disease; use pre-clinical trials to explore efficacy and safety of novel therapies and test novel therapies and therapeutic regimens in children with renal disease, and to refine existing therapies through prospective randomised national and international trials.

Paediatric Nephrology research is funded by MRC, NIHR, Wellcome Trust and kidney charities, and we are experienced in delivering clinical research programmes, in collaboration with industry. We have strong research links locally including the Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine, Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell Matrix Research nationally including UK Regenerative Medicine Platform, NIHR and UK Registry for Rare Kidney Disease; and internationally, including renal DNA Banks.

Our research currently includes programmes in the following areas; clinical trials including early phase, cell biology biomarkers, developmental biology genetics and novel surgical techniques.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will act as a main point of contact for the Paediatric Nephrology research support team, working closely with the Trust Research Office, clinical colleagues, service support departments within MFT and pharmaceutical companies.

The post holder will need to ensure that comprehensive, high quality and efficient administrative processes are in place and followed for the set up and coordination of studies, ensuring full compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and the regulatory framework in order to support the successful delivery of the research portfolio for this speciality.

You will need to have a health service background, knowledge and/or experience of research, clinical trials coordination, delivery and monitoring.

You will have sound knowledge of all aspects of research governance and related legislation and inspection requirements (e.g. MHRA, HTA) and experience of the governance and approval systems within the NHS.

You will need to be an exceptional communicator with effective organisation skills and be confident in managing a demanding and varied workload. Excellent IT skills and the ability to work with several projects simultaneously are essential.

You should be highly motivated, able to use initiative to resolve problems and be able to work flexibly within the team and within R&I.

The post holder will need to work cross site across our research campuses if required.

Person specification


Education

* Degree in a science or health-related discipline, or a degree in another field with experience in clinical trials, or relevant experience
* A thorough understanding of the clinical trial process.
* MSc or an equivalent qualification in clinical trials or a health-related discipline.
* Evidence of structured managerial training and continuing professional development, a managerial qualification or proven experience.


Knowledge and Experience

* Experience in Clinical Trials Management, including set up, financial management, data collection, audit and project management.
* Sound knowledge of all aspects of research governance and related legislation and inspection requirements (e.g. MHRA, HTA).
* Experience of the governance and approval systems within the NHS and UK CRN for clinical studies.
* An appreciation of research methodology.
* Research project monitoring.
* Previous NHS experience.
* Experience of managing a budget.
* Evidence of writing policies and procedures and evaluating their application in practice.


Skills

* Excellent organisational skills, with a methodical approach, and the ability to pay attention to detail.
* Ability to motivate self and others.
* Ability to work as part of a team, and experience of interdisciplinary working.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to present information and materials to a wide range of audiences.

* Advanced IT skills with a good working knowledge of IT packages and databases.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
