Key Responsibilities
Import Operations
*
Handle all aspects of air import shipments from arrival through to final delivery.
*
Liaise with airlines, handling agents, and customs to ensure timely clearance and delivery.
*
Prepare and process import documentation, including airway bills, invoices, and customs entries (CHIEF/CDS).
*
Track and trace shipments, updating customers and internal systems accordingly.
*
Coordinate deliveries and arrange transport with third-party hauliers where required.
Export Operations
*
Handle export air freight shipments from booking through to final uplift.
*
Prepare and issue export documentation, including airway bills, commercial invoices, packing lists, and export declarations (using CDS).
*
Liaise with airlines, ground handlers, and overseas agents to ensure smooth operations.
*
Ensure compliance with IATA, HMRC, and other regulatory requirements.
*
Provide accurate costings and quotations to customers when needed.
General
*
Maintain accurate records in the freight management system.
*
Ensure all billing and job costing is completed promptly and accurately.
*
Provide excellent customer service and maintain strong communication with clients, agents, and suppliers.
*
Work closely with internal departments (Road, Sea, Customs, Accounts, etc.) to ensure seamless end-to-end service.
*
Assist with KPI reporting and continuous process improvement initiatives.
Skills & Experience Required
*
Minimum 2 years’ experience in air freight forwarding (import/export operations).
*
Strong understanding of air freight procedures, customs documentation, and CDS/CHIEF systems.
*
Familiarity with IATA regulations and Dangerous Goods handling (DG certificate desirable).
*
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
*
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
*
Proficient in MS Office and freight management software (e.g., CargoWise, ASM Sequoia, or similar).
*
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Qualifications
*
GCSEs (or equivalent) required; A-Levels or further education preferred.
*
IATA / CILT / BIFA training advantageous.
