The CAA Sponsorship team is part of the Aviation Commercial, Strategy and Sponsorship Division, which oversees commercial aviation monitoring, the Aviation Futures Forum, and consumer rights, including those with disabilities, as well as the overall aviation strategy. The team manages oversight of the CAA/DfT relationship, grants, and appointments.

The CAA Sponsorship Policy Advisor will serve as a key link between the Department and the CAA. The role involves working collaboratively with the CAA and the Aviation Directorate to manage governance, funding, priorities, policy, and performance. Flexibility is essential to meet ministerial and directorate expectations and to ensure the CAA remains responsive to external factors. Responsibilities include:
1. Communicating regularly with the CAA Strategy Team to monitor and drive delivery of priorities set by the Secretary of State.
2. Collaborating with the Aviation Directorate, Public Bodies Centre of Excellence, and Public Appointments Team to understand processes and drive improvements.
3. Managing government grant funding to the CAA, monitoring payments, and supporting audits to ensure KPIs and milestones are met.
4. Supporting recruitment and reappointment processes for key CAA roles, including Chair, CEO, and Non-Executive Directors.
5. Coordinating briefings for senior officials and ministers regarding governance meetings with the CAA Chair and CEO.
6. Contributing to divisional priorities such as risk management, financial support, and corporate objectives.
7. Handling public correspondence regarding the CAA and coordinating briefings with other government departments.
