Overview
Deputy Project Director to lead delivery of the Dinorwig Refurbishment Project, coordinating multi-disciplinary workstreams and ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. Role involves contract negotiation, governance, and handover to operations within a major power station refurbishment context.
Responsibilities
* Support the Project Director in leading the delivery of the Dinorwig Refurbishment Project.
* Manage key workstreams and packages, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
* Coordinate internal and external resources, including ENGIE, First Hydro, consultants, and contractors.
* Oversee technical and contractual interfaces to ensure successful project execution.
* Champion collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement across the project lifecycle; lead and manage key elements through contract negotiation, preparation & execution phases and handover to O&M.
* Deputise for the Project Director as required.
* Develop and monitor KPIs and milestones to ensure compliance with approved scope, budget and programme.
* Ensure alignment and collaboration across technical and non-technical professionals to progress and coordinate contract placement and delivery management of the refurbishment project.
* Maintain the team’s commitment to project goals and manage conflicting priorities on a day-to-day basis.
* Lead, promote and develop safety culture at project level; accountable for H&S strategy and management, including cooperation with other work groups to meet regulatory and Company requirements.
* Maintain and promote quality focus through all stages of delivery.
* Develop/apply the contractual strategy (solution-driven with contractors and suppliers).
* Make decisions in negotiations and through ongoing contract management at project level in compliance with the mandate and with awareness of technical and commercial implications.
* Identify, define and follow up project risks and manage related actions; identify and follow up project opportunities.
* Build the Project structure through recruitment/transfer of competent resources.
* Support general communication with the business and formal reporting to the Steering Group; ensure approval requests, decisions and feedback are documented.
* Coordinate with the overall FHC O&M organisation to support the business’ interests and priorities.
Qualifications & Experience
* Extensive experience managing a number of project managers and multi-disciplinary teams on major investment programmes (>£50m).
* Proven experience managing complex engineering projects with exposure >£100m.
* Delivery of Health and Safety strategies mitigating personnel hazards and plant loss.
* Experience delivering financial control strategies for accurate forecasting, timely payments, accruals and budgeting.
* Extensive refurbishment/construction experience involving commissioning of major plant systems as a Project Manager or Project Director.
* Experience with FIDIC Contracts (ideally Yellow Book) operating as Engineer or Engineer’s Representative.
* Successful delivery of several concurrent projects with complex interfaces.
* Field experience in the energy sector on large-scale plant; hydro or brownfield project exposure is advantageous.
* Experience in ensuring insurance requirements (CAR and BIPD) are satisfied.
* Proven ability to influence, coach and mentor teams; promote effective engagement at all levels.
* Chartered Professional Engineer status; Master’s Degree in Engineering; APMP Practitioner or equivalent; NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma.
* English language proficiency to at least Level 2.

Location & Programme
It is expected that the successful candidate will work at both Dinorwig and Ffestiniog power stations in Snowdonia (Eryri), Wales. The project is a £600m+ refurbishment of the Dinorwig Power Station.
