Job Overview
Selden Centre is seeking a Band 6 Charge Nurse in a 10‑bedded hospital providing assessment and treatment for adults with learning disabilities in Sussex. The role is part of a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
As a care coordinator and charge nurse, you will undertake the following:
* Undertake assessments of patients with complex mental health presentations, including high‑risk individuals, and develop individual care and recovery plans.
* Offer specialist nursing assessment and advice when required.
* Provide clinical and managerial leadership on the ward.
* Assess and manage ongoing risks in collaboration with patients, carers and the MDT; review and update risk factors as needed.
* Supervise junior staff, trainees and student nurses where appropriate.
* Take charge of the clinical environment during shifts, manage morning calls, handovers and shift handover to the next team.
* Ensure that care plans, risk assessments and records are evidence‑based, aligned with NICE guidelines and Trust policies.
* Maintained confidentiality and report incidents that may put patient safety or Trust reputation at risk.
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with current registration (mental, A/C health, LD, Adult) appropriate to the role.
* Completion of Mentorship Course/ENB equivalent.
* Evidence of continuous professional development.
Knowledge & Experience
* Significant post‑qualifying experience with adults with learning disabilities or severe mental health problems.
* Experience of supervising staff and working within a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience in conducting clinical risk assessments and applying the Positive Behaviour Support model.
* Knowledge of clinical governance, the CPA process and partnership working with statutory and non‑statutory agencies.
