SEMH Teaching Assistant – Salford

We are currently recruiting a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to support one of our partner schools in the Salford area. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about making a positive impact on young people who face social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
About the Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping students overcome barriers to learning. Working closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams, you will provide a mixture of classroom support, behaviour intervention, and personalised 1:1 or small‑group assistance to help pupils re-engage with their education.

Key Responsibilities
* Supporting pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
* Helping pupils regulate emotions, build confidence, and develop positive routines
* Assisting with catch-up sessions in core subjects such as English, Maths, and Science
* Managing challenging behaviour using school-approved strategies
* Creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
* Acting as a positive role model and promoting positive relationships
* Following school safeguarding policies and reporting concerns appropriately

Candidate Requirements
We are looking for individuals who have:
* A genuine passion for supporting children and young people
* Experience or transferable skills from roles involving support, care, youth work, or mentoring
* The ability to remain calm, patient, and empathetic in challenging situations
* An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
* Two recent references, including one from your most recent employer
This role is ideal for graduates or anyone seeking hands-on school experience—particularly those considering teacher training, pastoral work, psychology, or SEND careers.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
