We are looking to appoint two full time trainee social workers to work in childrens fieldwork services to support our qualified social workers with duties as outlined in the job description as part of our &slshquot;grow your own&slshquot; programme. Alongside this, the trainee social worker will study at Sheffield Hallam University on the social work apprenticeship 3 year BA Honours degree apprenticeship programme.
This advert is open to permanent internal candidates only who meet the criteria outlined in the job specification. You must have a copy of your GCSE certificate in English Language grade A-C or 9-4 and a certificate of a suitable level 3 or higher qualification which is equivalent to 120 UCAS points to gain entry onto the university course (e.g. 3 A Levels at grade C or equivalent including BTEC, NVQ, Access to HE), or any higher level qualification. You will be asked to provide these certificates prior to shortlisting.
You must also have significant current frontline experience of working directly with vulnerable children and families at the point of application and significant relevant experience of working with vulnerable children and families in order to apply.
This is a three year fixed term contract in order to focus the postholder on studying to pass the BA Honours degree in social work.
The recruitment process will involve a formal panel interview with Sheffield City Council social work managers and if successful followed by an interview with Sheffield Hallam University in order to register for the degree which will start in September 2026.
