Overview
The role aims to improve the experience for children and young people (CYP) presenting with mental health problems who would otherwise have seen a GP. You will work as part of the South West London and St Georges Mental Health NHS Trust and primary care team in Central Sutton PCN in Sutton, providing support to GP practices for CYP with mental health problems. This includes advice, education, support and psychoeducation to GPs, CYP and carers through consultation, advice and signposting. You will also provide expert advice and education to primary care staff across the 4 GP Practices in Central Sutton PCN. The post holder will be an effective member of a multidisciplinary team and will have access to clinical supervision and a named PCN contact for day-to-day support.
Responsibilities
* Improve access for CYP with mental health conditions through early identification
* Increase access for marginalised and disadvantaged groups
* Support engagement with existing mental health services and GP practices
* Provide psychoeducation and advice and information on well-being for CYP and their carers
* Monitor and support patients between GP appointments
* Provide psychoeducation and advice for children, young people and their carers presenting with mental health problems
* Assist in supporting early intervention pathways and liaising with local CAMHS SPA teams
* Work with patients and team members to support engagement with appropriate services and treatment, including onward referral to secondary services or signposting to other mental health services, social prescribers, voluntary services and community-based support groups
* Support patients to stay well within local communities, including signposting and access to psychological techniques and/or guided self-help
About Us
Central Sutton PCN Sutton is looking to employ a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Practitioner under theAdditional Roles Reimbursement Scheme to work directly with GP practices for CYP with mental health problems. The role is autonomous but supported by a multi-professional primary care team. You will have experience working with CYP across diverse populations and excellent communication skills addressing and providing expert advice and education to the 4 GP Practices within Central Sutton.

Person Specification
Experience
* Essential: Relevant clinical experience and at least twelve months working with CYP who have experienced mental health problems
* Experience with research-based and reflective practice and use of supervision to develop skills via evidence-based practice
* Desirable: Experience supervising/mentoring junior staff and students; experience as an assistant psychologist in CAMHS; experience providing guided self-help resources; working knowledge of EMIS
Qualifications
* Essential: An upper second-class honours degree or higher in psychology; entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society; evidence of continuing professional development; further post-graduate training in relevant areas of psychology and mental health practice including delivery of evidence-based therapies
* Desirable: Training in supporting CYP with mental health difficulties
Knowledge and Skills
* Essential: Able to manage workload independently; able to provide quality care; excellent written and oral communication; good organisational skills; resilient and approachable; self-aware and motivated; ability to communicate sensitive information; understanding of psychological therapy in severe mental health problems; knowledge of CBT principles; ability to apply psychology to primary care mental health; training in evidence-based psychological therapy
