Overview
An exciting opportunity is available in an 8a development role as a Clinical Psychologist within our Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services (CYPMS), multidisciplinary team. The successful post holder will work within the Enhanced Specialist Pathway (including Forest House General Adolescent Unit, Home Treatment Team, DBT and the Eating Disorders Service). The role involves delivering a high-quality service that promotes and improves the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people and their families.
You will have HCPC registration and provide a highly specialist child and adolescent service within the Enhanced Specialist pathway, delivering both core and specialist work. Opportunities exist to lead in areas of service delivery and specialist interest.
Responsibilities
* Provide a highly specialist clinical psychology service to young people within FHAU and across the Enhanced Specialist Pathway, working with a multidisciplinary Therapies Team and wider MDT.
* Manage a team of therapists, ensuring appropriate skill mix and cover; provide supervision in line with need and Trust policy.
* Provide high-quality psychological assessment, formulation and treatment; offer consultation to non-psychologist colleagues and other agencies.
* Offer case management for a subset of young people within FHAU to ensure safe, joined-up care across hospital, home and involved services.
Clinical Responsibilities
* Conduct advanced psychological assessments using diverse data sources; develop and implement treatment plans based on evidence-based approaches.
* Deliver individual, family and group interventions; refine formulations and hypotheses as needed.
* Make informed treatment decisions considering theoretical and developmental factors; discharge planning as appropriate.
* Provide expert advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals; contribute to a psychologically based framework of care within the service.
* Undertake risk assessment and risk management; act as case manager where appropriate.
* Ensure all staff have access to psychological frameworks for understanding and care; disseminate research and theory.
Leadership and Staff Management
* Provide professional, clinical and safeguarding supervision for staff within FHAU Therapies Team and Enhanced Specialist Pathway.
* Recruitment, appraisal and performance management in collaboration with the Consultant Clinical Psychologist; line management as needed.
* Support staff wellbeing and monitor mental and physical health in a proactive, open manner.
Qualifications and Experience (Essential)
* Post-qualification experience in specialist psychological assessment and treatment with children/adolescents with complex presentations; typically 2+ years post-qualification.
* Experience with moderate to severe MH problems across diverse client groups; professional resilience in emotive/high-risk contexts.
* Post-qualification supervision experience (minimum 50 hours over 18 months or equivalent).
* Ability to lead a team and provide supervision; strong teaching and presentation skills; ability to work in a multicultural setting.
* Excellent communication skills; ability to convey complex information to clients, families and professionals.
* UK registration with HCPC; driving license (or suitable alternative under equality act).
Desirable
* CAPA/CYP-IAPT knowledge; neuropsychological assessment experience in supervision of clinical/counselling psychologists.
* Experience with service quality monitoring, clinical audit or evaluative research; published work in peer-reviewed journals/books.
Other Requirements
* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance as applicable.
* UK professional registration required.
