Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a specialist Dietitian to work in spinal cord injury and haematology/oncology services at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust based at the National Spinal Injuries Centre (NSIC) and cancer care and haematology unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

You will join our thriving, 40 strong Nutrition and Dietetic department based in Buckinghamshire. We work from bases in Amersham, Stoke Mandeville and Wycombe.

This specialist post is ideal for existing Band 5 Dietitians wishing to move to the next stage of their career or Band 6 Dietitians wishing to specialise in the field of spinal cord injury within our World renowned National Spinal Injuries Centre. Applicants with less practice in this field who are highly motivated will also be considered. Teamwork and excellent communication skills are essential for this role.

This post offers a fantastic opportunity to gain a variety of skills
across the spinal service: spinal injury, acute and rehab wards, complex nutrition support as well as clinical audit, and cancer care and haematology outpatients, working with the wider MDT and Dietetic teams across Buckinghamshire.

We actively encourage CPD, clinical supervision and participation in specialist teams to develop our service. The department has excellent secretarial and IT support, and we also take dietetic students for B and C placements.

Main duties of the job

1. To work as part of the dietetic team to provide Nutrition and Dietetic services to inpatients within the National Spinal Injuries Centre [NSIC] and outpatient in CCHU.
2. To provide support for Dietitians, Dietetic Assistants and Student Dietitians across the Nutrition and dietetics Service.
3. To provide specialised assessment, treatment and support of patients requiring dietetic treatment.

Person specification

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria

13. BSc Dietetics or equivalent
14. HPC Registration

Desirable criteria

15. British Dietetic Association member
16. Membership of appropriate professional interest groups
17. Documentary evidence of CPD

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria

18. Experience in assessing nutritional requirements and developing nutrition care plans
19. Experience in monitoring and developing EN regimens
20. Experience in assessment for enteral feeding, products, equipment and regimens
21. Accurate anthropometric skills
22. Student training experience

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

23. Ability to travel to other sites if required

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria

24. Working knowledge of commonly used feeding systems
25. Awareness of regulatory bodies (HCPC) and professional bodies (BDA) code of practice and professional guidelines
26. Commitment to engage in CPD and dept appraisal system
27. Competent user of IT equipment and basic software (email, RIO)
28. To be able to communicate clearly and concisely to both staff and patients
29. Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
30. Ability to prioritise and manage own caseload and time

Desirable criteria

31. Knowledge and understanding of clinical governance and evidence based practice.
32. Ability to plan and deliver training sessions to health care professionals
