Specialist Radiographer - Interventional Radiology

The interventional service at Royal Preston Hospital provides a wide range of interventional procedures for patients across the Lancashire and South Cumbria network. You will work in a range of different interventional radiology suites, working with the Philips Azurion Flex‑arm and the Artis Zeego in our hybrid theatre. You will assist in the day‑to‑day running of the service in conjunction with the Lead Radiographer. This includes research, stock control, arranging patient appointments, undertaking audits and other non‑administrative duties. You will work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure excellent patient care is delivered and high‑quality imaging techniques are performed.


Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for the planning and allocation of work in the specific area of the department assigned, to ensure the timely delivery of an effective service.

You will monitor and maintain standards of professional practice, supervise more junior staff and deploy staff ensuring standards are met.

You will also provide leadership and direction to the team, acting as a role model and patient advocate. Assess, plan and make informed decisions on the required imaging examinations providing advice and maintaining associated records. Support the aims and vision of the Trust and take personal responsibility for the quality of the service provided.

Job responsibilities

You will assist in the day‑to‑day running of the service in conjunction with the Lead Radiographer. This includes supporting research, stock control, arranging patient appointments, undertaking audits and other administrative duties.

* Assist and support the Lead Radiographer in the safe, effective management of the area including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes
* Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation
* Be responsible for the delivery and coordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff
* Ensure a high radiographic standard is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of standards to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence based guidelines
* Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care
* Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines
* Communicate with patients, relatives and other healthcare workers to ensure appropriate dissemination of complex information, in a form and manner consistent with their level of understanding, culture, background and preferred ways of communicating
* Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals
* Participate in education and training of junior staff


Person Specification


Qualifications & Education

* DCR/BSc
* HCPC registered
* Attendance at study days and/or conferences
* Angiographic/interventional experience


Knowledge & Experience

* Knowledge of a wide range of interventional radiology procedures.
* Involvement with QA.
* Evidence of willingness to expand clinical role.
* Evidence of a commitment to reflecting on and learning from previous practice.
* Awareness of changes within imaging practice.
* Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice.
* Experience of audit.
* Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures.
* Experience of student mentorship and staff supervision.
* Experience of cardiac lab, neuro or interventional procedures.
