Overview
Ward 4 is a 30 bedded Stroke Rehabilitation ward. The staff nurse is to lead and manage their team under the direct supervision of the ward manager and ward sisters. This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably experienced registered nurse who is highly motivated and enthusiastic, with a keen interest in caring for patients with Stroke rehabilitation needs. Applicants should display effective communication skills and deliver high quality patient focused care. The stroke rehab unit is friendly and supportive and has a commitment to providing a high quality of nursing care. The post holder should work effectively within a team environment, have good communication skills, initiative, demonstrate enthusiasm about the role and share our passion and vision for providing high quality patient care.
Main duties of the job
* Provide leadership, clinical expertise and organisation of the stroke rehab ward.
* Continuously develop and enhance knowledge and skills that influence high standards of clinical practice and evidence-based care to promote patient-focused care.
* Promote patient-centred, high quality, evidence-based care to patients on the ward, ensuring the patient is central to all aspects of treatment and care.
* Communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams both internal and external to the organisation.
About Us
We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients\' homes. Job Description & Responsibilities
* Essential: Registered General Nurse with current NMC Registration.
* Evidence of relevant academic achievements and continuous professional development.
* Proven ability in teaching others via a teaching and assessment qualification or relevant experience.
* Experience as a mentor to students and developing the ward to be an effective learning environment.
* Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to manage people and processes at a senior nursing level.
* IT skills (e.g., internet access to nursing databases and report writing).
* Evidence of motivating and empowering staff to continually develop themselves.
* Ability to work flexibly within a multi-disciplinary team and to work under own initiative, meet deadlines, and adapt hours as service needs require.
* Desirable: Knowledge of current national policies, stroke experience.
Person Specification
* Experience (Essential): Clinical knowledge of acute nursing; literate and articulate; managerial and leadership skills; good communication; ability to undertake audits to inform practice.
* Desirable: Knowledge of nursing and health care policies; previous stroke ward experience.

* Desirable: Teaching qualification.
